Local Content

Friedlander, a subsidiary of the Ortec Group, has been working with local people since 1978, when it set up its first African branch in Côte d’Ivoire.

Since then, the Ortec Group’s objective has always been to increase the percentage of local resources involved, to educate, train and transfer skills and technologies to the subsidiaries.

Its aim is to enable people to improve their quality of life and contribute to the social and economic development of their society.

The Ortec Group is committed to ongoing training, professional qualification programmes and training for local employees. It is also involved in numerous social projects aimed at improving the daily lives of local communities and will continue to develop new projects as opportunities arise.

 

Development of the
Local Content strategy

Friedlander has been pursuing a successful local strategy for many years, based on the following areas:

In-depth knowledge of the local context and economic fabric

  • Gaining in-depth knowledge of the local economic context and fabric.
  • Strengthening relations with companies and developing skills and employment under the aegis of its local entities.
  • Optimizing local resources and services.
  • Working closely with the local community.

The regulatory requirements of the host country

Complying with the regulatory requirements of the host country, including involving local partners in accordance with Local Content legislation.

Training and skills development

  • Providing ongoing training and skills development for local employees.
  • Progressively employ local talent at all levels of the organization.
  • Deploying a succession plan to overcome shortages of local expertise.
  • Encouraging worldwide mobility of employees, from the operator to the  management level, to enhance their know-how and adaptation to customer requirements.

Investment and recruitment

Investing in local infrastructure (workshops, equipment, welding processes).
Implementing a recruitment program giving priority to :

  • Nationals of the host country
  • Expatriates from the region
  • Non-nationals ((while simultaneously training a local employee at the same time).

Purchase of goods and services

Friedlander preferentially works with local suppliers based on :

  • Availability of products and services.
  • Compliance with customer
  • requirements and industry regulations.
  • Cost competitiveness.

Friedlander actively supports the development of local suppliers in terms of industry standards, HSE awareness and continuous improvement for their qualification in the bidder’s supplier base.
