Since 2011, the Canadian gold corporation Kinross has entrusted Friedlander Mauritania with several building projects in the Tasiast gold mine located 300 km North of Nouakchott, the capital of Mauritania. The works included mostly the construction of a pipeline, the installation of a water treatment system and an oil tank farm.
The main project consisted of building a pipeline to supply water to the mine from drilled wells, water being necessary to ensure ore extraction. Thus, Friedlander Mauritania teams have installed a pipe made of glass fibre glued together. The work was carried out in nine months. Friedlander also installed a complete water treatment system providing drinking water production and wastewater treatment.
Finally, Friedlander was asked to build an oil storage for the purposes of the new electric central of the site. This part of the project is currently being completed.
The new installations were perfectly completed. The success of this project shows Friedlander Mauritania expertise in the mining field. However, the company is also seeking for new Oil & Gas opportunities in Mauritania.
Some project figures:
- 65 km of pipeline built in 5 months
- 10 km of collection pipe for 18 wells
- 2 pumping stations installed to ensure 12 000 m3/day
- 300 people team counting 60 different nationalities
